Short Story on Friendship for Kids (With Moral)

Here is a short story on friendship for kids, with its moral at the end. It takes about 3 minutes to read and suits children in class 1 to 5.
🪁 Two Best Friends
Rohan and Sam had been best friends since they were four. They lived on the same street, walked to school together, and shared everything — comics, cricket bats and secrets.
Every year, their town held a kite festival. The best kite flyer won a golden trophy. This year, both boys had practised for weeks.
🏆 The Big Day
On festival morning, the sky was full of colour. Rohan’s kite was red with a long yellow tail. Sam’s was blue, shaped like a bird.
One by one, the other kites came down. By the afternoon, only two were left in the sky: a red one and a blue one. Rohan and Sam were in the final — against each other.

✂️ The Broken String
Then, just before the final round, snap! Sam’s string broke. His blue bird kite floated away over the rooftops and was gone.
Sam’s eyes filled with tears. Without a kite, he was out. Rohan would win the trophy easily.
Rohan looked at his friend. He looked at the trophy. Then he opened his bag and pulled out his spare kite — a green one he had made the week before.
“Take it,” he said, pushing it into Sam’s hands.
“But then you might lose!” said Sam.
“Then I lose to my best friend,” said Rohan, grinning. “That’s not so bad.”

🌈 The Final Round
The two kites danced across the sky, red and green, twisting and diving. The crowd cheered for both.
In the end, Sam’s green kite flew just a little higher, and the judges gave him the trophy. Sam ran straight to Rohan and put the trophy in both their hands.
“We won it,” Sam said. “Together.”
That evening, the golden trophy sat on Rohan’s shelf for one week, and on Sam’s shelf the next — and it went back and forth like that all year.

💡 Moral of the Story
A true friend is happy when you win. Real friendship means helping each other, even when it costs you something.
